The ocean industries have the potential to double the contribution to the global economy by 2030 (ref OECD). At the same time the health of world oceans is at stake, locally and on a global scale. The oceans give mankind access to food and energy, and act as a giant climate regulator. There is therefore an urgent need for improved monitoring, understanding and fact-based management of the underwater environment, resources and operations.
The SFI Smart Ocean initiative will realise digitalisation for the marine industries, research and management
The prime objective is to create a flexible, robust, energy efficient, and cost effective smart sensor network platform, for marine measurements and data handling.
